A conduit was identified on the 2nd edition Ordnance Survey map and is visible on LiDAR in places. It cannot be seen on aerial photography. The conduit is depicted as part of the route of the conduit built by the Edinburgh & District Water Trust. [Trove]
The aqueduct there [gathers] into a circular stone cistern, of sufficient size to keep a good head upon the iron pipe , which from that point carries the water right into Alnwick Hill Service Reservoir, Liberton, Where the filter beds are situated . On the way traversed by iron pipe, there are several minor works deserving of a passing notice , viz. - The first is a tunnel, 420 yards long, chiefly through rock, which leads from Gillygub Dean into the valley of the Fullerton Burn; and after this comes a stone bridge, by which the pipe is carried across this stream. [Colston]
Alternative Names: River South Esk Conduit
Notes: Possible 420 ft tunnel from Gillygub Burn to Fullerton Burn.
Hydrographic Feeds: Gladhouse Reservior
Hydrographic Resurgences: Fullerton Burn
