Trial pit, Quarry (sandstone).

The English, Flag & Giffnock quarries were located to the NW and NE. These were part of a larger complex of quarries that produced sandstone used extensively in building projects within and beyond Glasgow. The Giffnock quarries, including the English Quarry, were active for a significant period, with quarrying starting in the mid to late 19th century and ceasing by the 1920s.

Site of the quarry at the given coordinates is infilled, now buried below gardens between Ravenscliffe Drive and Wellfield Rd. The English Quarry site is now occupied by derelict / industrial ground N of Treeburn Ave, whilst Giffnock Quarry is now infilled and covered by housing between Burnfield Rd and the adjacent railway.

Alternative Names: None recorded.

Notes: Shown as 'old shaft (to test sandstone)' on geol. survey map.
