Shaldi Cliff cave 1

Shaldi Cliff, Fair Isle, Shetland.

'Entered by snorkeller 20/8/21. Entrance an inclined rift estimated ~3 m wide at water level with ceiling at ~11 m ACD. About 10 m within the entrance a ~1 m wide second entrance on the right admits light. A short distance further into the cave there is a further opening (~1-2 m wide) on the left which also admits light. About 18 m into the cave the passage abruptly narrows to ~0.5 m wide. This was estimated to continue for a further ~8 to 10 m. Cave floor at the entrance is ~8 m BCD but rises rapidly towards the back of the cave until it is above chart datum in the narrow terminal passage. Overall passage length estimated at ~26 m. Partially illuminated throughout. ' [Report 1145]

It is not at all obvious where the light mentioned coming into the two inside 'entrances' is coming from - given how very steep the Shaldi Cliff promontory is - see photo 2.
