Mine (ironstone, & coal?), early 19th Century or older.
Shaft now under an extensive pond that is a relatively recent feature of the landscape (subsidence-related?). Not shown on old OS maps, but annotated on geol. survey map with 'A. SB. at 62 fms' [Armadale Slatyband Ironstone at 114m].
Alternative Names: None recorded.
Notes: Torbane No.2 & No.3 pits are described in the 1855-59 OS Namebook, which Torbane No.1 Pit will predate.
