Mine (Ironstone), late 19th Century.

Large-scale mine workings (probably worked-out) extending SE from shaft (at given 8 fig NGR) under Lands of Braehead for half a mile. Connected with the wasted workings from the Conjoint Pit (Fauldhouse No.11) to the E, and other workings to the NW under Lands of Starryshaw, by way of tunnels through 'want' (see abandonment plan in refs for extent).

Operated by William Dixon Co. & abandoned in 1891. Shaft site now occupied by pasture field.

Notes: Slatyband ironstone band varied in thickness from 0-10", dipping to NW at '1 in 40'.

Given 8 fig NGR are for 'Old Shafts' marked on 25" OS map. Pit name (No.13 Pit) labelled on AP with depth of 100 fms (183 m).
