Mine (Ironstone, & Coal?), pre-1855
"A substantial ironstone pit, set within watery mosslands. Shown with surface building intact on the 1856 OS map, but possibly disused, or used for pumping only, by that time as the tramway serving the pit appears dismantled. The pit bings remains intact, with little vegetation growing on the black ironstone waste." [Scottish Shale]
Alternative Names: Crofthead Iron Mine No.7, Stonehead No.7 Pit
Notes: Geol. survey map states C.SB at 50 fms (91 m).
Crofthead Colliery No.7 Pit was producing Coal (Manufacturing, Steam) & Ironstone during 1915-20. However, unsure if this is a separate pit elsewhere as site at given coordinates only shows a bing on the 1895 25" OS map (ie disused by end of 19th Century).
Given 8 fig. NGR derived from OS georef tool (using geol survey map). Name from Scottish Shale website (not given on geol. survey map).
