Mine (Fireclay), 20th Century.
Relatively extensive grid-form workings that extend W from the site of the former adjacent adits (a main mine, and an 'air mine' opening) which are now probably buried below the tarmac of Jardine Place. The main workings, which are all SW of the A800 road, are mostly located W of a line drawn between Easton Farm & Lowland Cottage. These extended NW as far as [NS 9574 6985] (approx 700m from the mine mouth), and a band of passages also run SSW just W of Easton Farm as far S as ~[NS 9601 6919]. All of these workings were accessed by c.250 m-long E-W drift roads from the mine mouths.
Alternative Names: Ballencrieff Fireclay Mine
Notes: Operated by Burn Fireclay Co Ltd, & closed in 1985.
Given coordinates are for the main mine mouth (S of air mine mouth).
Easton Farm [NS 9617 6942] & Lowland Cottage [9610 6975] buildings were not undermined.
