Site referred to as Uamh Mhòr, which according to the OS Namebook relates to: "a deep gully with rocks along each side of it and from which Allt na Claise Mòire rises".
Alternative Names: An Dirc Mhòr, Uamh Mhòr, Uamh Mòr
Notes: The term Uamh Mhòr (shown on 1st Ed. OS map), which is typically used as 'big cave' elsewhere in Scotland, appears to have been superseded by An Dirc Mhòr (meaning the big dirk / dagger). In this instance, it appears that 'Uamh' referred to a deep gully rather than any cave.
The stream name 'Allt na Claise Mòire' in this context probably means 'stream of the big trench'.
