Culvert inlet on line of Knowle or Mill Burn.
Alternative Names: Mill Burn or Gasworks Burn (Howatshaws Road Inlet)
Notes: Knowle Burn rises near Barr Wood skirting modern housing before disappearing underground just north of a sweeping bend on Howatshaws Road. The original line of the stream runs on a broad curve though the gardens of the houses west of Howatshaws Road but it is likely that the culverted stream would more closely follow the line of the road past the site of the former curling pond (now allotment gardens at Whiteford Crescent) before bending westward under Pinewood Court.
The culvert then passes under a small parking area either on the line of the original burn which turned 90 degrees twice forming a dog-leg (possibly with artificial assistance) or it may cut across at an angle to the outfall east of Dumbarton Cemetery.
The name Mill Burn is sometimes used because the partially canallised burn was diverted to feed Dumbarton Mill.
