Mine (Coal, Fireclay), late 19th Century.

Drift mine associated with the former Barlinnie Fireclay Works (the site of the latter being internal open grounds of HMP Barlinnie). The site of the adit, which was driven into an old clay pit, is located immediately outside of the NW prison boundary & landscaped / grass-covered.

Alternative Names: None recorded.

Notes: Operated by John Allan & Sons. The mine appears to have been discontinued by 1896.

Mine with tramway leading into adit shown on 1895 OS map. Geological Survey map shows two neighbouring mine mouths to the Balmoral & Lower Drumgray coal seams.
