Mine (Coal), late 19th Century to 1963.
Site of capped coal mine shaft alongside extensive surface building remains which are probably the best & last surviving of the mining industry in West Lothian.

"Although the pit head buildings have been demolished there are two distinct depressions between the surviving buildings marking the location capped shafts." [Mining Landscapes]
Initially owned by the Woodmuir Colliery Co., & later United Collieries Ltd prior to takeover by the NCB in 1947.
Woodmuir Colliery Pit No.1 was located further SW, beside the A704 through the Woodmuir Plantation at [NS 96659 59534]. A number of other shaft sites are located around this plantation area.
