Legend of witches. Inc JB & Mause who leaped between rocks at Carlops (Carline's Loup). Legend inspired pastoral comedy 'The Gentle Shepard' by poet Allan Ramsay (1684-1758), J daughter of old shepard Glaud is loved by rich young shepard Roger, but spurns his love claiming to hate men but eventually returns his love. Old woman Mause accused by Bauldy of being a witch as she is more educated than the locals. Peggy & Patie another loving couple are separated but reunited when Peggy adopted niece of Glaud is found to be missing daughter of Sir William. Mause cleared of witchcraft as she was the nurse who rescued Peggy from a murderous plot by one of her aunts. Thus Mause only accused witch. J's surname not given & never accused of witchcraft.
