Mine (Ironstone / Coal).
Clayband workings, contiguous with those of Highfield No.2 Pit to south. Survey dates of 1880-93 shown around No.5 Pit on abandonment plan. Given coordinates place shaft below farmyard.
Alternative Names: Highfield No.6 Pit?
Notes: Labelled as No.5 Pit at given location on abandonment plan. Clayband ironstone encountered at 300 ft (91m) from cranklog, therefore probably a neighbouring pit to Pit No.6 in which clayband was encountered at 65 fms [119m] (according to Geol. Survey map). Also possible that No.6 on Geol. Survey map is a misreading of No.5.
Labelled as 'Old Shaft (Coal)' on 1897 OS map, at different location to No.6 shaft on Geol. Survey map (possibly No.5 & No.6 pits).
