Aqueduct Tunnel (1850s).

Part of the Loch Katrine Aqueduct system (1855 phase). Locked manhole (low sandstone-built structure with metal cap) at field edge beside Ibert, probably situated at or near to SW portal (buried) of tunnelled section that was driven through a low ridge of Old Red Sandstone bedrock.

See Loch Katrine Tunnel [Intake] (Site #9564) for background info.

Alternative Names: Ibert Tunnel

Notes: 1869 cross-section of 1855 aqueduct states (unnamed) tunnel 506 yards [462m] long. Conduit probably continues NE/SW from the buried portals as cut-and-cover sections.
