Mine (Oil Shale), c. 1871-1903.
"Serving Uphall Oil Works. A substantial pit, exploiting Broxburn Shale from an area to the south west of the pit. Workings seem to have latterly been linked to those of Forkneuk No. 1 Pit and Forkneuk No. 38 Mine. Linked to Uphall Oil Works by a standard gauge mineral railway. The pithead site lies in rough ground to the north of Rosemount Drive. The bing seems to have been been levelled and no trace remains of pithead buildings." [Scottish Shale]
Alternative Names: Forkneuk No.9 Pit, Forkneuk No.10 Pit
Notes: Shown as Forkneuk Shale Pit 50 fms [91m] to B.S. on Geol. Survey map.
