Mine (Coal & Ironstone), operational 1850s / abandoned pre-1897.
Shaft site now buried below area of vacant shrubland. An air shaft that is marked on OS maps c.230 m to the NE (NS 7584 6395), now buried beneath grassy area within housing estate at S end of Cromarty Rd, may be associated with this mine. The Faskine No.1 coal pit, which reached the Ell Coal at 23 fms [42m], was located c. 50m to the SE.

Notes: Shown as 'Ironstone Pit' on 1864 OS map, although Geol. Survey map only states Kiltongue & Lower Drumgray coal seams at 95 & 109 fms, respectively [174 & 119m]. Pit name taken from BGS map of 1988.
