Devil's Doghouse

Devol Glen, Port Glasgow, Inverclyde (Renfrewshire).

Boulder cave consisting of short 2 m through trip alongside a waterfall on the Devol Glen downstream of Wallace's Loup and a 3.5 m upstream passage under boulders in the streamway.

During investigation of Wallace's Loup and Devol Glen Fissure Caves the access to the two larger fissures was found to pass a boulder ruckle on the east side of theDevol Burn (possibly wet/part of the streamway in rainy weather). Downstream access was on the east side of the burn, down a 2 m climb from the top of the 2nd minor waterfall below the major falls. This showed a tight 2 m passage under a large boulder passable with care and possibly the removal of a couple of loose rocks in the floor. The upper entrance above this was partially blocked by another largish boulder and upstream of this was another short passage leading 3.5 m to an upper blocksage.

Notes: Found by Alan Jeffreys and named Devolution as an ironic hint towards both Devol Glen and the upcoming Scottish elections (7 May) fought on the issue of independence (or at least increased devolved powers for Scotland).
