Mine (Coal), early-mid 20th cent.
One of two neighbouring & connected adit mouths, both treated & buried within grounds of residential park. The No.1 adit extended NE into a vast area of workings in the Dysart Lower Coal (both pillar-&-stall & longwall types), shown on mine plan in refs. Shown as adits on the Geol' Survey map of 1931, later nationalised & operated by the NCB ca. 1947 (until closure in 1953). See Fife Pits website (in refs) for further details.
