Mine (Coal), 19th to earliest-20th cent.
Relatively extensive workings in multiple coal seams, largely contiguous with workings from the Engine Pit [site #11171] to the W. These were worked by the room-&-pillar method but appear to have been almost entirely stooped-out during the latest-19th & earliest-20th cent. See mine plans (in refs) for extent.
"Blinkbonny Colliery, situated near Rowanburn, functioned alongside Canonbie from the 19th century, connected by tramway for operational efficiency, and contributed to the local mining community established in the late 1800s to house workers. It formed part of the four principal pits around Rowanburn-Bottoms, Archerbeck, Blinkbonny, and Canonbie-mined intermittently from the 1770s until 1922." [Grokipedia]
