Mine (Coal), 19th to earliest-20th cent.
Formed part of relatively extensive workings in multiple coal seams, largely contiguous with workings from old pits to the W & the Blinkbonny Pit [site #11170] to the E. These were worked by the room-&-pillar method but appear to have been almost entirely stooped-out during the earliest-20th cent. See mine plans (in refs) for extent.
Alternative Names: Engine Pit
Notes: Shown on 1859 & 1899 OS maps, with latter showing the colliery beside the end of an NBR mineral railway.
76 fathoms [139m] to the Seven Feet Coal.
