Mine (Coal), late-19th cent.
Site of old adit mouth that led N into a relatively small-scale area of room-and-pillar workings in the Six Foot Coal seam (also worked from the connected No.4 Mine mouth). See mine plan (S4299) for detailed layout. OS maps suggest that this mine mouth had been abandoned by 1894, hence this probably formed part of the Sunnybraes Colliery prior to the wider complex becoming Saline Valley Colliery under control of the Saline Valley Coal Co. approx 1893.
Alternative Names: Saline Valley No.1 Mine
Notes: The adit met the Six Foot workings a few metres N of where the No.2 Mine mouth was located.
