Mine (Coal), early-19th cent.
Shaft marked on Geological Survey map, site now occupied by woodland on the W bank of the Kelly Burn, probably buried. It was sunk 15 1⁄2 fathoms (on the crop of the Splint/Rough Coal) to the now-wasted Main Coal that was worked to its crop & where "part of Main, the Splint and all the rough coals are exhausted without the level range of Couts engine west of Kelly burn and the whole of the rough coal east to Dr Patons march and further."
