Mine (Coal), early-19th cent.
Site of shaft, now buried below field between Kelly Bridge & Westerton Farm. MRA plans state 9 fms to the Coalsnaughton Main Coal, which has been worked (wasted) to its crop around this shaft and areas to the W (see mine plan S4263, dated 1838). This pit was drained using a crank, hence its name. A broadly E-W trending day level passed along the axis these workings, crossing either above or below the main Dollar Day Level (stone mine) to the W as far as approx Sorley's Brae [NS 9637 9822].

Notes: Pit was situated on land owned by John Ballandine. MRA plan also states: Wester Pitgober lands, the property of Mrs Ballendene, the coal belonging to the Globe Insurance Company.
