Sea cave apparently located in a rocky inlet 50-60 m NE of Briershaugh. Access should be possible along the rocky foreshore at low tide.

Alternative Names: Arbroath Cave [38]

Notes: Location from unattributed and not to scale plan of caves of Arbroath. Coordinates from Streetmap.

Larger scale maps still show an access route from Auchmithie to Ethie Castle from which a track is supposed to run to the clifftop at Briershaugh. This does not exist (if it ever did exist as more than a farm track it has now been reabsorbed into the ploughed fields).

The cave lies on the boundary between Scone Sandstone Formation - Sandstone and Auchmithie Conglomerate Member - Conglomerate.

The coast between Auchmithie and Rumness Point is NOT part of the Whiting Ness - Ethie Haven SSSI.
