A cave system of two tunnels, linked at the north entrance by the dividing wall being 4 m under the overhang above.

Looking at the photo of the north entrance: the right hand chamber is 23.7 m long (from the bottom of the dividing wall), 8.7m wide and has a VR of 6.9m. The end is rounded and widens slightly on the right, to 10m, so that part is dark.

The rift tunnel on the left is 12m long (from the bottom of the dividing wall) and about 2m wide. There are a number of small apses along it. The south entrance is at NO 90381 91688.

Alternative Names: Grum Briggs, Grim Briggs

Notes: Grum Briggs: "A rocky peninsula situated on the south side of Grum Haven. The sea has formed a large passage through the cliff at the narrow rock joining the peninsula with the main land." [Scotland's Places] See Grum Briggs Arch [1] which matches the 'passage' mentioned above.

The N-S passage through the rocky headland is shown on 25 " OS maps of 1865 and1902, but not the chamber beside it.

Access is difficult: by land requires crossing over the top of Grum Briggs Arch [1] which is too narrow to walk across, although a bottom shuffle with legs either side is OK. Bottom half of tide.

Landing from the sea would be tricky because of the boulder beach - see north entrance photo.
