Mine (Ironstone & Coal).
Treated shaft, located just N of Blairhall Colliery 'Old Shaft No 2' [NT 0062 8793]. If this is Pitsoulie Pit No.1 (or 2), then this extracted the lower blackband ironstone, and the Parrot & Main coal seams in the early 20th Century. Possible reworking of older site?
Workings extended SW as far as Shires Mill , with this extremity surveyed in 1877/78.
Alternative Names: Pitsoulie No.1?
Notes: 'old Shaft' marked by this locality on 1896 OS 25" map, but absent from 1855 versions (i.e. probably 19th Century).
Annotated with 'IZ BB. at 87 fms' [Inzievar Blackband Ironstone at 159m] on geol. survey map. Name from BGS.
8 fig. NGR determined by OS georef' tool (using geol. survey map) / BGS.
