Mine (Ironstone), 19th Century.
Treated shaft to Lochgelly Blackband Ironstone. Marked as "Gin Pit (Ironstone)" on 1856 OS map, and abandoned "Old Shaft" on 1896 ed. Site now occupied by woodland.

Notes: A 'gin' was a horse-powered mechanism used to raise and lower materials from a mine shaft. Several gin pits are documented in Fife, including locations near Fordell, Cuttlehill, East Wemyss, Pilmuir, and Lochgelly.
Located close to the Jenny Gray and Melgund (coal) pits.
