Mine (ironstone), prob. 19th Century.
Lochgelly Blackband Ironstone encountered at 24m. Operated by the Lochgelly Iron Co, now abandoned and buried below edge of worked field.
Alternative Names: Lochgelly No.18
Notes: Geol. Survey map states "LO.BB. at 13 fms" [Lochgelly Blackband at 24m], but absent from OS maps.
Description of "The Minto (No. 18) Pit, which is 12 fathoms in depth" noted on the Scottish Mining website. This is unlikely to be the Minto Coal Pit at Brigghills (further N, at NT 2052 9475), which is considerably deeper and was sunk in 1901, hence a 19th Century age is probable.
