Shaft for lead workings, site of.

Probably a trial on the Raik Vein (nr its amalgamation with Brown's Vein) rather than mine, as no passageway shown at location of shaft on abandonment plan (AP12706.01). Shaft was situated beside the No.2 Watercourse lade. Spoil tip located beside (probably buried) shaft.

Alternative Names: None recorded.

Notes: Shown as shaft on Raik Vein on BGS 10k map.

Labelled as 'Old Lead Mine' beside [the No.2 Water Course] lade on OS map surveyed in 1858, & Mine (disused) on OS 25k. However, it does not appear on a mine plan (APR87D.1) from 1851. Cf. short-term trial between 1853-57?

This locality is listed as the location of the Katystaklin (Copper) Mine in Landless' GMMoS. This copper mine [site #10134] is located further NE on the S bank of the Shortcleugh Water.
