Mine (Lead). Site of northernmost portal to the Poutshiel Level, shown to have been dammed according to abandonment plan APR87D.4. This damming provided a sufficient water source to at least partially power the old lower smelting mill beside the level mouth, which later became the site of lead washing floors for lead ore (depicted on the OS map of 1863). These buildings had been demolished by 1896 (area shown as derelict on 2nd Ed. 25" OS map).
