Shaft marked on Geological Survey map on S side of Manse Burn near Bonnaughton.

Notes: A line of five connected U-shaped structures were shown on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey map of 1864, on which they were annotated as 'Old Limekilns' An old coal pit was shown around 80m to the west. The kilns were absent from the 2nd edition map of 1899, and from all subsequent OS editions; however, their mapped position lies in an area of undeveloped ground, meaning that it is possible that physical remains associated with them may still survive. Near here, Stan Wood found the 330 million year old fossilised remains of a shark. Now on display in the Hunterian Museum. [Bearsden Shark]
