Mine (Coal), 18th or 19th cent. Probably a bell pit with shaft buried below wooded margin of field.
"Aptly named because of its location, the Loanhead Pit, to the north-west corner of the [Crombie] coalfield, was located north-east of the Air Pit. It lay between crops of the Five Foot and Dunfermline Splint Coals." [Fife Pits]
