Mine (Coal), latest-19th / 20th cent.
Site of adit mouth, now buried below pasture. This was situated just SE of the site of the Loch-head Pit that was probably initially sunk by the Lochgelly Iron and Coal Company in the early 1890s. The adit extends N into an area of room-and-pillar workings that wrought the Lochgelly Splint/Parrot coals during the early 20th century (see mine plan 10729). The mine is marked as "Mine (Disused)" on the OS map of 1962. No surface features remain.
Alternative Names: Lochhead No.1 Mine, Lochhead Mine, Loch-head Mine
Notes: Not to be confused with Lochhead Colliery that was located further E near Coaltown of Wemyss [site #10985], or the Lochhead coal & fireclay workings at Dunfermline [site #11007] (all in Fife).
