Mine (Coal), 18th cent.

Site of level mouth. This site is situated on/beside the crop of the Glassee Coal that this old mine probably worked. Glassee Coal workings are present here, wrought from the New Venerable Pit [NT 1569 8788] & probably also the Holburn Pit [site #3528] during the early-19th cent.

This was formerly in the N bank of the Muir Row Burn that has since been re-routed. The Minniwick sandstone quarry was located ca. 50m SW of this site.

Notes: 'Old level' shown on N side of burn on mine plan from 1790. Given coordinates are based on burn as shown on the OS map of 1856.
