Mine (Coal), sunk ca. 1873.
Shaft sunk 50 fathoms to the Bowhouse Coal in which extensive longwall workings are contiguous with those of the Lochhead Pit & Mine [site #10986] located >1km to the N. The shaft is now buried below a worked field.
Coal from the Hugo Pit was formerly transported S to the Victoria Pit / West Wemyss through the Hugo Tunnel, the N portal of which is located close to the shaft site [see site #11770]. This was no longer essential following an extension of the mineral railway N to the Lochhead Pit (known then as Wemyss Colliery's Lady Lilian Pit), providing access to the N.B.R methil Branch that allowed coal to be exported from the Methil Docks.
Alternative Names: None recorded.
Notes: Some brick-built ruins of the original pit building or depot remain standing, albeit heavily overgrown.
