Mine. Marked as quarry on 6" OS 1857 sheet 34, shaft on 6" OS 1897 sheet 34, 6" OS 1911 sheet 34NW & 6" OS 1946 sheet 34NW. Tramway from shaft to Whetstone Mill at Milton.
Baked, hardened shale formerly obtained at Sundrum Mine & Quilkiestone Mine near Stair as honestone or whetstone for sharpening tools. Marketed as 'Water of Ayr Stone' or 'Tam O'Shanter Stone'. Mines not currently operating, but resources may still exist.
