Limestone Mine (Pit) & Quarries.
"The remains of a lime works and its associated mine and quarry workings extend across an area of about 15ha around the farm of Moss-side" [Canmore].
Limestone Pit shaft marked at the given coordinates on 1st Ed OS map (18 fms [33m] on Geol. Survey map), site of which is now occupied by overgrown derelict land. This shaft appears to be flooded on the 2nd Ed. OS 25" map. The quarries are shown as being disused by 1859, some of which are visible as pond-filled depressions.
