Limestone Mine, 19th-20th Century.

Extensive pillar and stall workings with adjacent opencast workings at outcrop along W margins. The site had two limestone mine sections; i) the larger to the N with a mine mouth to a lengthy (inclined 1 in 2.5) 'dook' passage at the given coordinates, and ii) a southern section S with a mouth at [ NT 2756 6697]. The latter was located close to an old shaft related to shale workings. See abandonment plan (in refs) for mine layout.

The limestone mine (much of which had been worked pre-1870, particularly the S section) was abandoned in 1912 and the site has since been filled in & landscaped.
