A comfortable-sized entrance section leads to a square-shaped passage (up to 1.5m wide) that is of crouching height for its first half, before lowering to a crawl. Although natural, the cave resembles a natural souterrain in places, due largely to a lintel-like slab around the entrance that has the appearance of a doorway.

Alternative Names: Mackay's Cave, Uamh na Chloiche Rèidh, Sangobeg West Cave No.6

Notes: Recorded / measured by I. Greig, April '24.

Cave name derived from Uamh na Chloiche Rèidh, meaning 'Cave of flat stone'. Rèidh component can be falsely assumed to refer to the Reay Estate that Durness was formerly a part of (prior to being annexed by the Sutherland Estate in the 19th Century). Lord Reay is the chief of Clan Mackay (hence Mackay's Cave).
