Railway tunnel (19th Century), disused.
Formerly active from 1849-1966, built to run under the Monkland Canal & St Rollox Depot. S entrance with sandstone facade present beside/below present day M8 motorway that follows the route of the former canal at this point, gated-off at time of writing.
Alternate Names: None recorded.
Notes: Given location is for the S entrance. The N entrance by Pinkston Rd (approx. NS 598665) was infilled c.1980. The 1896 6" OS map shows an inspection shaft present at the summit of Broom Hill that is now a built-up residential area.
Not to be confused with the separate Cowlairs (aka Queen Street) Tunnel. The S entrance to the SW-NE trending Buchanan Street Tunnel overlies a section of the Cowlairs Tunnel that trends SSW-NNE at a lower elevation.
