Coal mine (19th Century to early 20th Century), abandoned.
Alternative Names: Lethans Pit, Lethans No.2
Notes: Marked on 1896 OS 25" map, and as an active shaft on 1931 geol. survey map that also shows a surface mine / adit a short distance to the NW at NT 0459 9273.
Appears to have been Pit No.2 of a first commercial phase of mining in the Steelend area (Saline Valley Colliery), and becoming termed Lethans Colliery Pit No.2 during a later phase of development (to differentiate it from Lethans Colliery to the north of Knock Hill).
8 fig. coordinates derived from OS georeferencing tool (using geol. survey map).
See 'Saline Valley Colliery Pit No.1' [Site 7444] for Steelend mines overview.
