Ironstone Pit 19th (Century).
Part of an extensive amalgamated complex of blackband and clayband ironstone workings that measures c. 1.3km from E (at West Mains) to W. Comprises blackband workings from Kilbirnie pits No.13, 21, 24 & 2, and clayband from No.21 & 31. See abandonment plan in refs for extent, which show survey years of 1849-62 (mostly 1850s) for the blackband workings, and 1879-88 for clayband which was abandoned by Merry & Cunninghame in 1888.
