Ironstone Pit (19th Century).
Located immediately N of associated bing in field, 140m WNW of Mossend Farm. Part of an extensive amalgamated complex of blackband ironstone workings that measures c. 1.3km from E (at West Mains) to W and comprises workings from Kilbirnie pits No.13, 21, 24 & 27. See abandonment plan in refs for extent, which show survey years of 1849-62 (mostly 1850s).
Alternative Names: None recorded.
Notes: Given 8 fig. coordinates based on pit shaft location shown on Geological Survey 6" map.
Probably post-dates 1858 OS 6" map, but spoil heap and lack of label apparent on 1914 25" version.
