Coal & Ironstone Pit, abandoned pre-1896.
Shaft now buried in woodland. Additional Hillhead 'coal & ironstone pit' also marked c.170 m to NNW at [NS 7676 6387]; area of wasted workings for both pits shown on abandonment plan (see refs).

Notes: Shown as 'Coal & Ironstone Pit' served by tramline on 1864 6" OS map, but absent from 1898 edition where only a bing is shown. Geological Survey states Kiltongue Coal seam at 61 fms [112m]. Given coordinates derived from BGS GeoIndex.
