A tall rift cave with part of its geo covered by fallen boulders. Faces E by S (101). There is a (roughly 10-12") vertical pipe down from the village above the rift slot - probably an old sewage outfall.
27/5/22 Entered at ca 16:05 when I was able, barely for width, to pass under the arch and then land on the beach. A fine rift cave with a pebble beach and well smoothed and scoured walls. There is an oval wider part starting 6 m from the W end of the larger gloup. The beach rises and the cave narrows and the last 5.7 m was measured by LDM and had several buoys wedged there. There were some bright silver sparkles high up above the oval wider bit. Many beadlet anemones on the walls of the geo as I went backwards out. [N Feilden]
Alternative Names: None recorded.
Notes: Access: by land it is only possible to look down into the larger, 3m long gloup.
by sea from Newtonhill Bay. Parking available on the W side of the railway bridge, having left the A90 at NO 90887 94829. Best to use a kayak trolley down the 500 m track to the harbour. It was not possible to get through the entrance at a tide level of 3.6 m ACD because of a boulder jammed between the sides of the geo. At 2.4 m ACD it was possible, but only just wide enough.
