Ironstone Pit, c.1860s.
Small-scale blackband ironstone workings (much of which now worked-out 'waste') with pit shaft located relatively centrally. Complex is c.380 m long from N to S, the N part of which is a c.160 m-long tunnel extending to ~[NS 2902 4869]. The youngest section of workings are a side extension that underlies an area around [NS 2932 4855] & was surveyed in 1868. The shaft site is now overgrown, with notable bing beside road.

Shaft 100 fms [183m] to 'Lower Doors' ironstone (Upper & Mid Doors seams at 86 & 90 fms, respectively). N tunnel section possibly a trial tunnel failing to reach ironstone beyond an extensive volcanic 'greenstone' intrusion.
