Small caves on the south of Traligill River in Gleann Dubh (Black Glen) roughly opposite Cnoc nan Uamh. A 2 m waterfall partially obscures the main entrance, a 1 m high fissure taking water. The main cave runs south with a sandy floor, bears right and eventually becomes too tight after 15 m. The holes may be silted up.
Tight fissures on the south bank of the Traligill at approximately NC 277 207 (Gleaann Dubh Holes), take a proportion of the river underground so that in very dry antecedant weather conditions the river bed can be abandoned for some 300 m downstream. [Lawson]
Alternate Names: Gleann Dhub Hole(s)
Notes: Gleann Dhub is a typo.
The coordinates are vague and opposite Cnoc nan Uamh does not narrow down the location. A 2 m high water exists sometimes at NC NC 27695 20800 but there are no obvious entrances. The estimated altitude would place the caves much further upstream (perhaps NC 28185 20550).
Hydrographic Feeds: River Traligill
Hydrographic Resurgences: None
