Mine (Ironstone), 19th Century.
Extensive blackband ironstone workings separated into three main segments (two of which are almost 0.4 km long each along axes), with sections nearest the shaft being surveyed in 1862. Contiguous with workings from Flashwood No.2 & Broadley pits on S & SE margins. Operated by Merry & Cunninghame and abandoned in 1876 with only an extensive bing structure to SW of shaft site reflecting previous use.
