Mine/Pit (Limestone).
Most north-westerly of five shafts which collectively form a line extending c. 300m to Kinneil Woods in the SE. The shaft at the given 8 fig. NGR is annotated as being '8 fathoms to limestone' on the 1912 geol. map, and the shafts are all close to the prognosed outcrop of the Dykeneuk Limestone (Calmy Limestone equiv.) with the line following its strike.
Whilst these could be independent workings, it is feasible that these shafts are connected to workings from the Dykeneuk adits to the NW [Site 8511] on the opposite side of the reservoir. The differentiation between Dykeneuk & Kinneil in references suggests seperate workings however.
The NW shaft is now buried below a lawn area, whilst the other shaft sites are situated within woodland.
Alternative Names: None recorded.
Notes: Shafts at given coordinates [NS 9790 8040], [NS 9801 8027], and three closely-spaced sites in the Kinneil Woods centred on NS [9808 8014]. The MRA shows an additional shaft at [NS 9797 8032].
"The Calmy Limestone was once mined somewhat extensively in the Bo'ness district, at Dykeneuk and near Kinneil". [MacGregor, 2004]
