Mine (Ironstone & Coal), 19th Century.
Extensive slateyband workings in conjunction with Pit No.8, with No.9 shaft (at given coordinates) being located at a relatively central point to the ironstone workings. From the No.9 shaft, the workings extended E for c.0.6 km (to a point just W of the Victoria Pit), and S for 0.3 km.
The shaft site is now buried below wasteland just N of a trackway.

Notes: Operated by William Dixon Ltd, and abandoned in 1879.
Abandonment Plan states depth of 120 fathoms (219.5 m) and a WNW dip of 1 in 18. The ironstone seam was 10" thick.
Given 8 fig. NGR coordinates derived using OS georef tool (considered accurate due to matching trackways).
